Christmas Giving Program
Christmastime has always been the season of giving. We sometimes get lost in the hustle and bustle of this busy season and we lose sight of the real meaning of this holiday. There are so many in our community that will go without this Christmas and the holidays can make hard times even harder. You have an opportunity to bring joy, smiles, and laughter to those less fortunate this year and we cannot thank you enough for taking the time to learn a little more about Hope Under the Tree!
What is Hope Under the Tree? It is a giving program for donors to adopt individuals and families in our programs.
Who is on the list? The families and individuals on our list are homeless families in transition, families in crisis, foster kids, seniors, Veterans, and adults with disabilities that we have served throughout the year. We know that they are in need because they meet the low-income requirements of our programs. We collect a wish list of clothing sizes and about 4 items that the parent, adult, or child would like to have.
How does it work? You will receive a wish list of families and individuals that can be selected to adopt. Once we receive your selections, you’ll be sent more information about gift wrapping, drop-off locations, etc. When someone is “adopted” we remove them from the list so the only gifts they receive will be yours. The items on their lists are suggestions and every item listed does not have to be purchased, but we do ask that the items be new. We will schedule your gift drop-off time and date for the week of December 12th – 16th. We collect the gifts at our corporate office in Bon Carre. The gifts are then distributed by the case managers and social workers to each individual or family. Please note: The deadline of December 16th is a firm date to allow our staff the time necessary to deliver gifts to all participants prior to Christmas.
How many are in a family? Most families have 3 – 5 children and sometimes the parents may be included on the wish list with a household item (i.e. pots/pans, bedding, toaster). On average, a donor will typically spend $50 per person.
What if I don’t like to shop? We have other opportunities to give too! We are always in need of items such as deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, socks, underwear, undershirts, etc. for the homeless. These items are typically an easier purchase than shopping for specific gifts. We also have opportunities to give financially either by mail or online. We will use those funds to purchase a meal, gift card, or an item for one of the programs we operate.
No matter your gift, big or small, this Christmas, you will be making a difference in the lives of our clients. Thank you again for taking the time to learn more about our program.
